Notes:

The marriage of Charles and Margaret caused quite a stir in the Union Church in Lincoln co Missouri. Because Margaret married a divorced man, many in the church felt she was living in sin. Several Baptist churches in the area were called to vote on whether to allow her to remain in the church. The majority voted for her to remain; those that voted against her felt dissatisfied enough to split off and form their own church.

Charles and Margaret left Pike co Illinois by wagon train in 1847, along with James Harpole and Charles' nephews: Charles S. Hubbard (son of Joseph Hubbard), Gideon, Goalman and Charles L. Hubbard (sons of David Hubbard) on the trek to Oregon. A son, Llewellen Hubbard, died in the Cascade mountains during the trip. When they reached Oregon they passed through the settlement where the Whitman Massacre took place a month later.

Charles Hubbard settled in Marion co Oregon . The area adjacent to Charles' property eventually became the town of Hubbard Oregon.

Side by side gravestones mark the burial site for Charles and Margaret in the Hubbard cemetery in Hubbard Oregon.
