- Obituary Lavern Judson Fish, Lavern Judson Fish, eldest
son of Arthur and Alvena Fish, was born in Sylvan, April 16, 1886, and
departed this life May 4, 1931, at the age of 45 years and 18 days.
During his early teens he was converted in the Lyons revival in Richland
Center. He united with the United Brethren church at Sylvan and was
baptized by Rev. Richardson, the presiding elder, Rev. A.D. Whitney,
his pastor, not being able to perform the service. He was always a dutiful
son, never giving his parents an unkind word. On December 14, 1905,
he was married to Rena Endicott, of Sylvan. To this union were born
10 children, Mrs. Ruth Donaldson, Vera and Gertrude Fish, of God's Bible
School in Cincinnati, Ohio; and Elgin, Jessie, Grant, Isolene, Arthur,
Eldon and Letha, at home, also a little granddaughter, Donna Lou. He
loved sacred music and from a little boy he has sung in Sunday school
and church and for funerals. At the time of his death he was practicing
for the Mother's Day church service. He labored and did more than he
was able. "He did with his might what his hands found to do." Most two
years ago his foot was broken and crushed by a falling dinner bell,
and ever since he has suffered much. He made the wish to his wife the
day before he departed that he might get rested. Eighteen years ago
he moved to Gillingham where he has since farmed. He and his wife united
with the Presbyterian church at that place. Besides his bereaved and
sorrowing wife and children, he leaves his sorrowing parents, an only
brother, Ray E. Fish, and an aged grandmother, Alma Cook, all of Richland
Center, and many other relatives and friends. Services were held at
Fancy Creek Presbyterian church Thursday, May 7th, Rev. W.C. Emigholz
officiating, with Rev. Alice White, matron of God's Bible school, assisting.
Interment was at Fancy Creek.
